In Memoriam: Professor Pedro Albertos

It is with deep sorrow that the IFAC Foundation announces the passing of Professor Pedro Albertos in March 2026.

Professor Albertos served as the founding Chair of the IFAC Foundation Board from 2005/2006 and guided the Foundation through its formative years with exceptional vision and dedication. His leadership was instrumental in establishing many of the Foundation’s early initiatives, including the regional courses and the Young Author Support (YAS) program, which have since become central to the Foundation's mission.

Pedro's unwavering commitment to advancing control education and fostering international collaboration left an enduring mark on the IFAC community. We remember him with profound gratitude and respect for his outstanding contributions, his generosity of spirit, and his steadfast belief in the Foundation's purpose.

The IFAC Foundation mourns the loss of a remarkable colleague, leader, and friend. His legacy will continue to inspire our work for many years to come.

 

Mission

The mission of the IFAC Foundation, as a not-for-profit foundation, is:

to acquire, manage and distribute resources to further the scientific goals of IFAC

To this end, the IFAC Foundation:

  • solicits donations and grants from individuals and organizations worldwide.
  • disperses funds to support worthy projects that have significant impacts and are consistent with the aims of IFAC and its worldwide activity but that would not usually be supported from IFAC budget
  • supports an appropriate range of worthy projects
  • purposes to be widely recognized for supporting valuable, successfully executed programs that have strong positive outcomes supportive of IFAC aims
  • strives to be among the primary foundations selected as for support by potential donors, worldwide
